When "times are good" or when "times are bad", business managers/owners need to know what the numbers are and how to interpret them. That is why there are always jobs in Accounting. According to the latest surveys, there won't be enough Accountants to fill the available job openings for the next decade and beyond.
Accounting Is Not Only About The Numbers!
Yes, some Accounting jobs are strictly working with the numbers - recording transactions or preparing financial reports. Other Accounting jobs are about how to interpret the numbers - why didn't we earn as much profit as projected or should we out-source some of our workforce? Accountants develop information systems, help negotiate contracts, advise Congress on proposed tax law changes, and much, much more! In fact, so much more that it would take an entire book to list the possibilities. Many owners and managers of small and large businesses have Accounting training/backgrounds.
