Unless otherwise specified, all computer facilities in the Business Building are covered by this policy, including classrooms, open computer labs, servers, and any other location (e.g. B103, B151, B204, B205, B219, B220, and B221a).
Computer Use Policy
Business Division computers provide access to resources on and off campus. Such open access is a privilege, not a right, and requires that individual users act responsibly. Users must respect the rights of other users, respect the integrity of the systems and related physical resources, and observe all relevant laws, regulations, and contractual obligations.
Lab Access
- Only students currently enrolled in Business Division courses at SCC are permitted in the Division's labs.
- Food and drink are not allowed in Business Division labs.
- Smoking is not permitted in the building.
- Children are not permitted in Business Division labs.
Use of Lab Equipment
- Computers and Internet access may only be used to complete assignments for Business Division courses in which you are currently enrolled.
- Unless required as part of an assignment, do not install any software on lab computers or campus servers, or alter, delete, or change any default settings, files, system files, or programs, including elements of the Windows operating system (e.g., screen savers, icons, wallpaper).
- Hardware and/or software malfunctions should be reported immediately to lab personnel. Please do not try to repair equipment yourself.
- Do not plug-in, unplug or reconfigure devices and other equipment in the lab. Network access is not available for non-lab equipment.
- Close all programs and return to the Windows desktop before leaving the computer lab. Do not turn off or reboot the computer.
- Do not dispose of output belonging to other students.
- Do not copy anything from SCC computers without instructor or lab staff approval.
- Do not copy another student's work onto your disk or represent another student's work or printouts as your own. This will be considered cheating and will result in disciplinary actions in accordance with District Policy.
- U.S. copyright laws and license agreements protect all software available in the computer lab and classrooms.
Lab Environment
- Help keep the lab in a tidy state. Please dispose of paper in the recycle bin and other waste in the trash receptacle.
- Please be considerate of your fellow students and speak quietly.
- Cellular phones and pagers must be turned off or set to vibrate, as applicable. Conduct any calls outside of the lab.
- Personal belonging should not be left unattended. It is not the responsibility of lab personnel to watch your property.
- Put personal items under tables to keep aisles, chairs and other workstations accessible. Do not rearrange the furniture.
- Vandalism, deliberate acts to disrupt computer operations, and the intentional use of computer facilities to offend or endanger any person, will not be tolerated.
Additional B151 Lab Policies
- Every student using computers in B151 must enter their 7-digit Student ID Number at the designated computer to log in/out. This includes students attending class in the lab.
- Check for any signs posted to inform you of current special conditions in the lab including notification that part of the lab is reserved for a class.
- Special power outlets for plugging in laptops are clearly marked, and may not be used for other electronic devices. Do not otherwise plug-in, unplug or reconfigure devices and other equipment in the lab. Network access is not available for non-lab equipment. The lab is a hot spot for free SCC wireless internet access.
- Laser printing is 10¢ per page. Color laser printing is available in the Learning Resource Center at 60¢ per page.
- Make an honest attempt to solve problems before asking for tutoring assistance. Use class assignment handouts, lecture notes and your textbook in an attempt to complete each assignment.
- Each tutor in B151 provides assistance in specific areas. Check with lab personnel to determine who has the expertise you require. The tutoring schedule posted on the front counter.
Enforcement
The Lab Rules and Procedures apply to all Sacramento City College students and employees. Directions given by any lab personnel concerning the use of the equipment, software, and facilities must be observed.
Students violating any rule in Business Division Computer Labs may be asked to leave the lab and may face disciplinary measures including limitation or denial of lab privileges, referral to the Dean of the Business Division and the Campus Discipline Officer, and/or liability for damages incurred by the College. Penalties may also be imposed under one or more of the following: Los Rios Community College District regulations, Sacramento City College regulations, California State law, and Federal law. As with all matters of law and ethics, ignorance of the law does not excuse violations.
